The Financial Times studies that Altman and OpenAI are backing a new firm known as Merge Labs growing mind implants, making it a reasonably direct rival to Musk’s Neuralink.
This has clearly been an curiosity of Altman’s for some time although — he wrote about “the merge” between humans and machines on his private weblog again in 2017, and connects it fairly straight to his work at OpenAI:
